Note that this list is not comprehensive, merely a few pertinent scholarships that we feel are important to check out- please continue your scholarship search outside of this blog for the most opportunities for your future educational financial aid. As each scholarship becomes available, physical copies can also be found at CHS's counseling office in the college information cabinet along with teacher reference forms and preliminary forms.

Beat the Odds Scholarship: Application Link

The “Beat the Odds” scholarship is a $2,500 renewable scholarship awarded by Stand for Children Leadership Center.
  • Three $2,500 renewable scholarships will be awarded in November 2015 for the 2016-2017 academic year.
  • This scholarship is renewable for up to four years provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA or better, remains a full time student, and funding is available.
  • Scholarships are contingent on acceptance into an accredited 2- or 4-year college program and will be paid directly to the college.
  • The Beat the Odds Scholarship is not for everybody. Recipients agree to share their story at the Beat the Odds award events and participate in all related publicity, including the creation of a short, inspirational video about their lives and accomplishments.

Bilingual Teacher Scholars Project: See your counselor for an application
Tuition scholarship for CHS Bilingual students who are admitted to Western Oregon University and plan on majoring in Education
Due: 11/23/2015
The Bilingual Teacher Scholars Project aligns resources and opportunities for students to attend Western Oregon University at little or no-cost, prepare to become teachers, and then seek possible employment in their home district. Students must be bilingual in Spanish and English and admitted to Western Oregon at the application due date. Pick up an application in the counseling office and submit it along with a high school transcript, letter of interest and one recommendation letter. More details included in the application.

BBB Students of Integrity Scholarship: Checklist & Criteria link

Better Business Bureau Foundation's scholarship of $10,000 will be awarded by a panel established by BBB. Submissions for this scholarship will only be considered from students residing in Alaska, Oregon or Western Washington and who meet eligibility criteria (see link above).
Requirements include creating a 90-second video explaining how BBB helps people become smart consumers. Focus on one of the following areas: identity theft & fraud; online marketplace scams; phony online reviews; charity scams. Once completed, upload video to Youtube and submit an application found on the following link:

High school seniors and current undergraduates who plan to enroll full time at a 4-year college in 2015-2016 and major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry.

Any CHS student continuing their education at any type of school is guaranteed one of these scholarships if they graduate and apply.

Over 400 Oregonian scholarships with 1 application

The OSAC is a scholarship program for Oregonian students only, where students use one application to apply up to 400+ scholarships listed. Students must complete the essay questions and filter the scholarships to choose which ones they are eligible for in the program. See your school counselor for more information and assistance in essay brainstorming.

120 Scholarships up to 90% of tuition cost

The Ford Scholars Program is a need-based renewable scholarship and open to high school seniors seeking a bachelor's degree in Oregon or California. Up to 120 students are selected and the award is not a set amount but is calculated to cover up to 90% of tuition cost. Selection criteria includes:
- Financial Need
- Leadership skills, good character, a concern for others, work experience
- Interview with foundation selection committee
- CUM GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Special recommendation by counselor, advisor, or teacher

Full-Tuition cost for students who plan on attending Chemeketa and are graduating with a 3.5GPA+
Due: Friday March 4th, 2016 5pm
Chemeketa scholars receive a full tuition scholarship for up to two years in any field of study, including any of the career technical programs. The scholarship is awarded to applicants who meet the following eligibility requirements: earn a CUM/unweighted GPA of 3.5 or better, earn a minimum COMPASS placement test scores of 80 in Reading, 75 in Writing and placement into Math 095 or higher and enroll full-time (12-18 credits) at Chemeketa the fall that immediately follows high school graduation.

Tuition and books at Chemeketa during Senior & post-high year through Central School District

CHS has a great opportunity for all Junior & Senior students to attend college for FREE during their Senior year at CHS and "5th year" as a CHS/Chemeketa College Student. In order to receive college courses paid for by the Central School District, students must pick up an application in the counseling office and complete it by March 13th. The application includes a short essay, 1 recommendation letter and sign-up for COMPASS testing (a required evaluation test for college entrance). Save money and earn college credit toward your Associate's at Chemeketa!

One scholarship given to a graduating senior at CHS with a 2.75GP+ and plans on attending college post-high school. Students must submit their completed application to the CHS Counseling office no later than March 20, 2015. See link for application requirements: Application Link

Plaza Comunitaria del Programa Hispano Scholarship: Application Link
13 $1000 scholarships

Awards for 1st generation, Mexican ancestry students who demonstrate a financial need and have a 3.0+ GPA. See application link for further information.
Limited number of $500 scholarships for Education majors
Due: ______________________
Each year, Oregon PTA awards a limited number of tuition scholarship to high school seniors or college students who are Oregon residents who want to teach in Oregon at an elementary or secondary school. The scholarship may be used at any Oregon public college or university that trains teachers or that transfers credits in education.
The scholarship is a non-renewable $500 merit award, however, winners may re-apply the next year. See the above link for access for further application information. Applications are accepted from Jan. 1-March 30th. They may be faxed, emailed or sent regular post.

Monmouth-Independence Community Foundation Scholarship: Application Link
4 $1,500 scholarships for seniors

The MICF is offering a minimum of 4 $1,500 scholarships to students who will be attending, full-time, an institution offering post-high school academic degree programs or an institution offering post-high school academic degree programs or an institution offering post-high school vocational or technical training. Submit your application to Mr. Cyphers in the counseling office by April 6, 2015. Complete the application in the following link:

Brent Strohmeyer Memorial Foundation Scholarship: Application Link
Several $400 scholarships for seniors interested in automotives

Brent Strohmeyer of Stayton died at the age of 20 years as a passenger in an auto accident. He was very active in his automobile hobby. Any graduating senior wilt a minimum GPA of 2.5 is eligible for this scholarships. Applicant must prove an interest in the automotive hobby or enroll in automotive classes in an institution of higher education (including community colleges or trade schools). Monmouth-Independence Rotary Scholarship: Application Link

One scholarship will be provided to a graduating senior at Central High School through the Monmouth-Independence Rotary Club, valued at $1000. All application materials are due April 20, 2015 to the CHS Counseling Office by 3p.m. Check out the specific guidelines here.


IHS Class of 1950 Scholarship Essay Contest:

One student graduating from CHS and planning on attending WOU or CCC will have the opportunity to receive $1000 from the graduating class of 1950. You must answer the question: "how does CHS, its student body, faculty and programs serve to bring the communities of Monmouth and Independence together? What more could be done?" Paul Nelson Memorial Scholarship: see links below for application
$1,500 scholarship for a CHS Senior
Due: Friday April 22nd, 2016
Paul Nelson is a $1,500 scholarship awarded to a Central High senior who has attended CHS for all 4 years of their high school career. Students must have a 2.5GPA+ and turn in a completed application by April 22, 2015 to the Counseling Office.

Masonic Education Grant:

2 individual grants for $1,000 each for graduating Seniors at CHS

Any student enrolling in a full-time recognized course of study at any 2-4 year accredited college, university, or community college shall be eligible to apply. Submit the application along with a general reference form to the High School Counseling Office by April 25, 2015.

Central Education Association Scholarship: Application Link
2 $1000 scholarships for Seniors who plan on majoring in Education
Due: Friday, April 22nd, 2016
Students must have a 3.0 GPA+ and turn in 3 teacher recommendation forms, an unofficial transcript and personal essay along with their application. The personal essay should cover 2 pages of the student's skills, interests, experiences and how they contribute to future academic goals and career aspirations. "What makes you stand out among your peers?"

6 $3,000 scholarships awarded to Oregon Senior

This organization awards up to six $3000 scholarships to Oregon high school seniors graduating in the year 2015. Recipients are chosen on the basis of financial need, athletic accomplishment, academic achievement and community involvement. Minimum academic requirements: GPA of 3.3, SAT of 1350 or ACT of 21. Scholarship funds must be used at an institution of higher education within Oregon.

Abbott & Fenner are committed to continuing efforts of helping those who have the desire and ambition to succeed. The winner(s) of this annual scholarship will receive their award within 2 weeks of the listed deadline. All applicants should include their full name and mailing address with their submissions. To apply for this scholarship students will need to write an essay on the topic below.
"Describe your educational career and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals. Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals." The essay should be between 500 and 1000 words. 2 $500 scholarships for CHS Senior who participated in drama/vocal arts during high school career

Robert Page Performing Arts Booster Club is awarding 2 $500 scholarships in 2 parts. Each recipient will be awarded $500 for their first year, and then another $500 for their second year at college (if a 2.5GPA is upheld).Students must be a graduating senior at Central High with a 2.5 GPA + and has excelled in dramatic and/or vocal arts during their high school career.
